RITA EILEEN LAURILA (nee ALLEN) Suddenly, but peacefully, Rita Laurila, aged 64 years, passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre on June 6, 2000. Rita was born in Winnipeg, August 12, 1935, but raised in Pointe du Bois, MB, the youngest child of Ted and Rita Allen. She moved to Winnipeg on completion of school, and married her childhood sweetheart Edwin Laurila. They lived in Transcona where they raised their family of three children. Rita was a very devoted daughter and faithfully cared for her aged parents until they passed away. Left to mourn Mom and Nanny are her children, Beverley Laurila (Shaun Lee-Paget), Mark (Kathy), Lorraine Lagimodiere (Bill) her grandchildren, Chris Laurila, Nicole Lee-Paget, Jamie, Charlie and Aaron McCorry; as well as her brother Ron Allen; sister Dorothy Boyd of Vancouver; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mom loved to garden and each year we were amazed at the quantity and quality of the produce her small backyard garden yielded. She took great pride in her flowers, and we enjoyed many a cup of tea sitting in her backyard. Over the years, Nanny cared for her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many of their friends in a loving and nurturing way. Nannys house was always busy with kids running in and out for cookies, freezies and a hug and a kiss to help heal scrapes and bruises. Mom especially enjoyed travelling to San Antonio to visit Mark and Kathy on several occasions. For the last four years, Moms activities were severely limited by her need for continuous oxygen. Mom lived with Bev and her family for the past three years and was an important part of our family life. She recently moved to Deer Lodge Centre to live as her needs could no longer be met at home. She was just settling in and making new friends. A special thank you to the 2 East staff and patients at Riverview Health Centre for their help, support and friendship over the years. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6. Cremation has taken place and there will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, June 10 at 2:00 p.m. at The Worship Centre of Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements 586-8044
